Penguin Random House Children’s is delighted to announce that it will be publishing the much-anticipated new novel, CHASING THE STARS, from their hugely acclaimed author Malorie Blackman this Spring.
Showcasing Malorie’s inimitable storytelling at its very best, Chasing the Stars has a love story at its heart which begins when the lives of its heroes, Olivia and Nathan, collide. But in Malorie’s trademark style, this is no happy ever after story. Drawing inspiration from one of Shakespeare’s most tragic plays, Othello, Malorie has made the bold and brilliant move of setting this new novel in space.
Set to be one of our biggest novels of the year, Chasing the Stars entwines mystery, thriller, heartrending love story and sci-fi adventure into one. As the star-crossed lovers battle against intrigue, jealousy and double-crossing at every turn, this novel races towards a thrilling finale.
Malorie has just completed her two-year term as Children’s Laureate, during which she inspired and championed creativity and diversity in all its forms in children’s fiction, as well as establishing YALC (the Young Adult Literature Convention). Now she is back putting pen to page, and this long awaited new novel is sure to thrill fans worldwide.
Malorie explained her inspiration for the new book“I have wanted to write a story inspired by Shakespeare’s Othello for quite some time – it has always been one of my favourites of his plays, full of twists and turns – but, but of course, I wanted to do it my way.  I’ve always been a huge fan of all types of science fiction and I loved the idea of Othello set in outer space, with Othello as a teenage girl!  That’s how the idea for Chasing The Stars was born.  It has been fun as well as a real challenge to write.  I am excited to see it released into the world and to talk to readers about it.”
