Media portrayal alongside peer pressure to conform to the ‘ideal’ body image all take it’s toll especially on teens. The number of people diagnosed with an eating disorder has risen 15% since 2000 according to a study by King’s College London. To coincide with Mental Health Awareness week 11th to 17th May our reading theme is taking a look at the portrayal of body image and self perception in young adult fiction.
