Reading Theme of the Month: Social Media in Young Adult Fiction

Recommendations, Social Media

Social Media is everywhere and growing daily. It is extremely rare for a teen today not to have some form of online presence. Whether it’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or YouTube or a combination. Not to mention Tumblr and Pinterest. It is therefore, no surprise that there is a growing trend of using social media as the basis of the plot within young adult fiction.

To go a step further with the book recommendations, I have also compiled a list of books to read if you enjoyed Girl Online by Zoe Sugg. I don’t think many people will have missed the controversy surrounding this book.

It certainly inspires fantastic classroom discussions from intellectual property, accreditation and whether YouTube is giving teens false expectations of success based on their online presence.
